Square One Studio Rules

Working independently at Square One is for Members, Open Studio by the Hour participants, and students currently enrolled in an ongoing class. It is for practicing processes you already know how to do. It is for people who have had some class time with us or have had an orientation with a staff member.  Staff is not available for technical questions during independent work time. Anyone working independently must be 18+.

Do not share your door code with anyone. There is a security camera recording inside the studio. The Cone Zero room is for staff and members only. Please do not help yourself to tools or equipment in the Cone Zero room unless you are a member of Cone Zero as well.

Bathrooms in the hallway are also available for Square One. If you are the last to leave, even during the day, please turn off all studio lights and shut any open windows. The large gable windows need to be locked. Please take any food trash with you (you can toss trash in the dumpsters in the south parking lot).

Clean your entire work area when you are done (floor, furniture, the sink! etc). The yellow shop vac, the broom, mop, and all cleaning products sitting out are available for everyone to clean up after themselves. Students and events get priority over easels, drawing boards, and table space during class sessions, however, you are welcome to work so long as there is space. Check the Schedule & Booking page to plan your work time.

Please do not leave work on the crit walls or any of the tables. All work surfaces should be clear for the next person to use. Please only use screws, tape, or push pins to adhere work to the crit wall.

Aerosols (fixative or spray paint) and wet plaster use are not allowed in the studio. Feel free to help yourself to the roll of kraft paper to layer between drawings to avoid smudging.

Solvents:

Gamsol is the only solvent we allow in Square One. You may dispose of used solvent in our containers on the bottom shelf of the yellow flammable cabinet. Members and students taking classes with us can label and store their solvent jars in the flammable cabinet. Students, please label your jars with the name of the class you’re taking and the date. Members, please date your solvent jars. Member jars will be tossed every 6 months, student jars will be tossed one week after class has ended.

Any rags or towels that you have used with solvent should be disposed of in the red cans under the sink.

Open Studio participants must take their materials and supplies with them as storage is for current students and members. Open Studio is $10/hr and is available from 10am to 8pm daily.

Thank you for following these guidelines in our community studio!
